Lane Van Doren

Lane Van Doren's father was an architect, and Lane was encouraged to develop his own artistic interests at an early age. Art was his primary focus at school.

Throughout his life he has made a living producing a variety of artworks in the private & public sector. Lane has traveled extensively to many different parts of the world. Because of this, his work suggests a connection with cultural symbols, forms and language, both formal and primitive. His works initially entice, and are complex enough to stay fresh. His works are substantial, powerful and playful, culturally timely without becoming trendy. It was the fabrication of unique architectural accents, sculptural elements, lighting, and art that offered a subtle invitation to pleasure, to treasure, and to delight.

He often works in collaboration with other design professionals. He enjoys the challenge of working in context with existing architecture and settings.

He has always produced Architectural designs, with detailed interior & exterior elevations, and is very familiar with commercial & residential construction technique. He has designed and built nine contemporary residences in California and New Mexico.

Commissioned Work
Lane works exclusively on commission. The works are specific to an actual setting or a client. With few exceptions, Lane personally installs all sculptural pieces, architectural facades, accents, doors, entry transitions, and water features. Paintings and other two-dimensional works, however, only require an initial site visit and shipping.

In order to produce the very best, Lane works on only one project at a time, from start to finish. Instead of having several projects in process all at the same time, Lane prefers to focus on designing one piece for maximum impact. Lane strives to have all installations completed per agreement and on time, and has succeeded every time.

Special Note about Architectural Pieces
Lane is often able to embed his art pieces into existing settings and structures without creating a glaring artistic incident. Instead, the work becomes a transition, a pathway, to something special, interesting, and temptingly profound.

Once a project is confirmed, Lane will provide detailed structural drawings and elevations for his installations. Sometimes he provides scale models, as well as submission of materials and finish options, to help a client imagine the ambience created by the final installation.

Most of Lane's work requires initial design consultation. Travel and expenses, as well as design fee, are required to proceed.
